1933 Sentinel S4 Steam Waggon (affectionately known as The Lion)

Derek Gransden - Kent, UK

A classic barn find - a 1933 Sentinel S4 shaft driven (as opposed to chain) and a 4 wheeler. Derek rescued ‘The Lion’ from a slow, lingering demise after the Waggon had served loyally for 350 000 miles. Firstly, to the Devon Trading Co a builders merchant in Bideford after loyal service in WWII it was used as a shunter at the Teignmouth Quay Co, until finally retired in the early 1960’s.

It was introduced to me at the stage where a new front screen had been fabricated and OE Nettlefolds Chrome Plated Brass Screws were needed to secure the frame to the new wooden cab. Derek had somehow managed to acquire the original drawings for the Waggon so the 7 x 1” Raised Heads were dispatched. See before photos (more to follow) for this part of the project. Also, on the gallery are some shots from the day of discovery! The restoration is ongoing, and we shall be updating this project in due course.
